Louisiana AED requirements — La. R.S. 40:1137.3

Under La. R.S. 40:1137.3, anyone or any entity that possesses an AED must generally:

Maintain and test the AED according to the manufacturer’s guidelines.

Have a licensed physician or authorized APRN involved in the AED program for training, EMS notification, and maintenance compliance.

Ensure designated/expected AED users receive CPR and AED training through a nationally recognized program.

Activate EMS/911 as soon as possible when an AED is used in a cardiac-arrest emergency.

Report clinical AED use to the physician/APRN overseeing the program.

Notify the local EMS provider—such as 911, an ambulance service, or fire department—of the AED’s acquisition, location, and type.
